- As well as adequate travel insurance, check that your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) is still valid. This gives you reduced cost or free medical treatment in 28 European Countries. To renew or apply for an EHIC online, visit www.dh.gov.uk/travellers
- Check what vaccinations you need at least 6 weeks before you go and consider weather you need to take extra health precautions - Department of Health.
- Get a good guidebook and get to know your destination.
- Find out about local laws and customs.
- Ensure you have a valid passport that is in good condition and the necessary visas.
- Make copies of your passport (including visa pages), insurance policy plus 24-hour emergency number and ticket details. Leave these copies, your itinerary and contact details with family and friends.
- Find out about airport security and if there are any special requirements before you go to the airport. Visit www.dft.gov.uk for more information.
